Tennessee attorney general orders nearly 40 online sweepstake casinos to stop operations

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Tennessee Attorney General Johnathan Skrmetti has halted the operation of nearly 40 illegal online sweepstake casinos in the Volunteer State after issuing cease-and-desist letters.

On Monday, Dec. 29, Skrmetti announced that the letters were part of an ongoing effort to “protect Tennessee consumers from predatory and unregulated gambling operations.”

According to the attorney general’s office, online sweepstake casinos allow participants to play traditional casino-style games like slot machines and table games with two types of virtual currencies, one of which can be redeemed for cash and prizes.
