Weather delays leaf pickup in Kalamazoo, raises concerns about community flooding

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Leaves remain on some Kalamazoo streets as winter weather continues to delay scheduled leaf pickup, prompting concerns from residents after recent rain and snow led to water pooling in roadways.

Officials with the City of Kalamazoo say Zone C, which includes the Edison, Milwood and Eastside neighborhoods, have not yet been cleared because crews were forced to shift from leaf collection to snow removal during early December snowfalls.

“We had quite a bit of snow earlier in December that just stopped our operations,” Dennis Randolph, public works manager for the City of Kalamazoo, said. “We had to switch our equipment from leaf pickup to snow removal.”…
