Big snowstorm will challenge Syracuse: Some city plows not useable, fewer drivers and many drivers are new

Syracuse, N.Y. – The city of Syracuse will put all its snowplows on the streets to try to keep up with an expected 20 or more inches of snow, but the city faces serious challenges.

Syracuse Public Works Commissioner Jeremy Robinson on Monday afternoon said the city will use all its available resources to try to keep the streets clear.

However, only 17 of the city’s 26 plows are currently in working condition, Robinson said. That means about 35 percent of the plows won’t be out on the road. Many of them can take extended periods to fix, he said…
