AUSTIN, Texas — As the new year approaches, concerns are mounting over the future of health insurance affordability for millions of Americans. Subsidies provided under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which were expanded during the COVID-19 pandemic, are set to expire in 2026 unless Congress takes action.
These subsidies, also known as premium tax credits, have helped reduce or even eliminate monthly premiums for individuals purchasing insurance through Marketplace. Without an extension, many enrollees could see their premiums more than double, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation.
