MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Construction on the new Interstate 55 bridge over the Mississippi River is expected to begin in 2027.
The bridge is being called the “Kings’ Crossing” bridge to honor B.B. King, Martin Luther King Jr., and Elvis Presley, “The King of Rock ‘n Roll.”
The Arkansas Department of Transportation and the Tennessee Department of Transportation will split the cost of the approximately $800 million project. The federal government has approved nearly half of that amount for the bridge, with Tennessee and Arkansas splitting the other $400 million…
