The City of Abbeville Water System is moving forward with a major overhaul of its water treatment infrastructure, backed by millions in state and federal funding to improve water quality and long-term reliability for local customers.
The city is using a $5.9 million fully forgivable loan from the state’s Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund (DWRLF) to upgrade its existing water treatment plant, a project designed to deliver better drinking water and strengthen the system against future disruptions, according to a news release.
Construction began this summer and is expected to continue through the end of next year. Work is centered on the city’s current water treatment plant at the corner of Louisiana Highway 14 Bypass and Alphonse Street.
