Following a significant land acquisition earlier this month, Aldi continues to expand its presence in metro Phoenix, with plans to develop another supermarket in Mesa’s East Valley. As reported by ABC15, the German grocery chain purchased three acres on the southeast corner of Power and Elliot roads for $2.4 million, according to real estate database Vizzda LLC. This purchase marks Aldi’s growing footprint since it opened its first Arizona store in 2020.
Additionally, a new Aldi store is slated for the southeast corner of Greenfield Road and Main Street, in a space formerly occupied by 99 Cents Only. In a move that the Mesa Design Review Board discussed on December 9, the supermarket’s proposed design and landscaping are set to breathe new life into the existing structure. According to Your Valley, the project by Aldi Arizona LLC includes architectural enhancements and revitalization of the parking lot and a new driveway.
The remodel comes with unique characteristics, including a requested height exception for a new entry feature. “The proposed inline Aldi grocery store includes tenant improvements for an existing 25,850-square-foot building,” reported Kimley-Horn in a written project narrative.
