Portland metro partygoers offered free public transit, reduced rideshare prices on New Year’s Eve

PORTLAND, Ore. — Getting home safely this New Year’s Eve will be easy, cheap or even free of charge in the Portland metro area, thanks to a big push from local transit officials in recent years to offer an alternative to inebriated driving.

TriMet, C-TRAN and Portland Streetcar are all offering free service for the night, making public transit easily accessible. But on top of that, the Portland Bureau of Transportation is offering coupons for Uber and Lyft to those who plan on using a rideshare service.

TriMet begins offering free service on buses and MAX trains at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31, as well as Portland Streetcar and TriMet’s LIFT paratransit service…
