HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – As the first anniversary of the deadly New Year’s fireworks explosion approaches, not one suspect has been charged, and prosecutors say victims’ family members and friends are refusing to cooperate with the investigation.
The tragedy on Keaka Drive killed six people, including a toddler, and injured 20 others.
Investigation challenges
“Surely, under circumstances such as this, any fair-minded person would be willing to cooperate. But what we’ve seen is a lack of cooperation, half-truths, misinformation, and complete information that’s contradicted by the reliable facts,” Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Scott Bell said.
Bell referred to the unwillingness to assist investigators “stumbling blocks,” but added they were not “insurmountable.”…
