Months after a fire was intentionally set at the Homewood Walmart, crews respond to another one to close out 2025

HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — Crews with the Homewood Fire Department were called to a report of a fire at the Walmart Supercenter off Lakeshore Parkway Tuesday.

Firefighters arrived at the store just before 11 a.m. regarding calls of a fire at the store. One of the trucks used its ladder to extend to the top of the building for entrance.

This is the second fire in four months that has been reported at the store, the last being an intentional fire set using a shopping cart full of flammable objects that was lit and rolled into the store during business hours on Aug. 22. No one was injured, but the building was closed for days afterward as cleanup and repairs were made.

Lillian Colburn, 25, and Mercutio Southall, 41, were later arrested and charged with arson and “conspiring to provide material support to terrorists” in connection with the fire…
