Pedestrian dies after hit-skip in Cleveland: police

CLEVLEAND (WJW) — A pedestrian died at the hospital after investigators said he was struck by a vehicle in Cleveland on Monday.

According to the Cleveland Division of Police, officers were called to the scene 6500 block of Denison Avenue just after 2:30 a.m.

The vehicle involved left the scene and the victim was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The victim, identified as Nelson Velez, 51, was later pronounced dead by medical staff at the hospital.

No arrests have been made in the hit-skip, which remains under investigation by the Cleveland Police Accident Investigation Unit.
