A fire burned though a Valley Fitness Center early Tuesday morning, causing extensive damage and closing the long-running gym at Shields and Maroa avenues.
The fire was discovered around 4:30 a.m. by a staff member who was opening the gym for the day.
Brian Downs, Battalion Chief with the Fresno Fire Department said crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the roof of the building, but the morning fog made it difficult to determine where the fire was located.
