19-year-old charged in deadly Hickory Hill gas station shooting acted in self-defense, his lawyer says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A 19-year-old accused of shooting and killing a man at a Hickory Hill gas station on Christmas morning acted in self-defense, his lawyer told FOX13.

Ja’Vonte Cooper is accused of a second-degree murder. On Monday, a judge set his bond at $500,000.

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), officers responded to a shooting around 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 25 at an Exxon gas station on Kirby Parkway. Police said investigators believe Cooper shot and killed another man following a fight at the gas station…
