Early morning fire contained at homeless camp

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — On Tuesday, the Amarillo Fire Department reported an early morning fire on the 1000 block of SW 1st Ave.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 3:41 a.m. and arrived three minutes later, officials said. Crews found a small fire behind the address involving a homeless camp.

The fire was extinguished, and salvage and overhaul operations were conducted. Officials said only trash and grass burned, with no injuries reported and no property damage.
