Warming Shelters Open Across Ann Arbor as Dangerous Cold Grips Southeast Michigan

Ann Arbor, MI – With a sharp drop in temperatures forecast across Southeast Michigan, local officials are urging residents to take precautions and use available warming shelters to stay safe during extreme winter conditions.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office says several warming locations are now open in and around Ann Arbor for individuals and families who need a safe place to escape the cold. The shelters are being activated as overnight lows dip well below freezing and icy conditions increase on roads and sidewalks.

Warming Shelters Activated Through March 2026

According to the county’s Office of Community & Economic Development, the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County has activated multiple warming shelters that will remain available on designated dates through March 2026.
