Police in Birmingham increasing presence to keep New Year’s Eve celebrations safe

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – As Birmingham prepares to say goodbye to 2025 and welcome the new year, police are making one thing clear: officers will be highly visible across the city as celebrations unfold.

The Birmingham Police Department says residents and visitors should expect to see blue lights throughout the city on New Year’s Eve as part of its annual safety initiative, Operation Close Out. The goal, officers say, is to prevent celebrations from turning dangerous by maintaining a strong police presence in areas where people tend to gather.
