There will be an increased police presence and safety measures in place in a popular nightlife area in downtown Fort Lauderdale for New Year’s following a shooting over the weekend that left five people hospitalized, city officials said.
The “increased and highly visible law enforcement presence” in the Himmarshee area is being put in place ahead of New Year’s Eve and the large number of people expected to celebrate in the area, Fort Lauderdale city officials said Monday.
“In advance of New Year’s Eve and as with any City event, the City is taking additional steps to ensure a safe environment. There will be an increased and highly visible law enforcement presence in and around Himmarshee, along with coordinated safety measures to support the large number of people expected to celebrate in the area,” the statement said…
