Ex-cadet claims North Charleston police ignored harassment, later rehired accused

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A former police cadet claims she was sexually harassed by a fellow trainee while attending the North Charleston Police Department’s training program and that her complaints were dismissed by supervisors.

Danielle Brown said she reported the alleged harassment to department leadership but was told the behavior was normal workplace talk. She said the situation escalated when Internal Affairs became involved and ordered her to submit to a drug test, which she said came back negative.

Despite the results, she was later fired for allegedly associating with an individual “under criminal investigation or indictment.” It is an accusation she disputes and says was made by the same cadet she accused of harassment.
