IAAM launches ‘The Renewal Series’ with events in the New Year

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — The International African American Museum is announcing the launch of a new annual winter programming series titled “The Renewal Series,” which aims to reintroduce a renewed space for communal healing and history in the new year.

“The traditions represented in ‘The Renewal Series’ reflect a cultural through-line expressed across the African Diaspora: We honor the past as means to shape our future,” said IAAM’s Chief Learning and Engagement Officer Malika N. Pryor. “These programs invite us to remember, celebrate, and step into the new year with a shared purpose and imagination—values deeply rooted in both diasporic history and IAAM’s mission.”

From late December through mid-January, “The Renewal Series” will feature four community-centered programs that honor key cultural and commemorative observances: Kwanzaa, Watch Night traditions, Emancipation Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day…
