‘Where the Revolutionary War was won’: New South Carolina license plate design coming in 2026

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) — South Carolina drivers will soon begin receiving newly designed license plates when they renew their vehicle registration.

Effective Jan. 1, the state Department of Motor Vehicles will begin issuing the plates that commemorate the state’s role in the American Revolution. The new design features the historic Moultrie Flag and the phrase “Where the Revolutionary War Was Won,” a reference to Sgt. William Jasper’s flag-raising during the 1776 Battle of Fort Sullivan.

The plates will replace the state’s blue “While I Breath, I Hope” plate. Drivers will have an option to continue using the old design when filling out their vehicle registration.

The redesign and roll out of the new plates will coincide with state and national celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. South Carolina was the site of more than 200 battles during the Revolutionary War…
