Nashville Grapples with Surge in Gun Thefts from Unsecured Vehicles, Police Urge Vigilance

The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department is again ringing the alarm on a troubling pattern that’s putting firearms into the wrong hands. In Nashville, the lion’s share of guns stolen in 2025—76% to be exact—have been swiped from unsecured vehicles. That accounts for 1,008 firearms, a staggering increase that outpaces the previous year’s tally by a significant margin, as a mere 928 guns were reported stolen from vehicles by the close of the same period in 2024.
