The Carpinteria Christmas Bird Count — held on Saturday, Dec. 20 — was “one of the best” in the Carpinteria Bird Watchers’ 17-year history, with preliminary results showing 160 species counted, organizers told Coastal View News. Sixty bird watchers joined in, counting birds across a 15-mile diameter circle.
Most of the volunteers covered city parks, beaches, and parking lots, organizer John Callender said. Others narrowed in on a parking lot outside Roxanne’s A Wish and A Dream, where a prothonotary warbler had been catching birdwatcher’s eyes for weeks.
