Deadline extended for review of Wilmington Harbor deepening project

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s (NCDEQ) Division of Coastal Management (DCM) has received another extension to complete its review of a federal request to deepen and widen the Wilmington Harbor.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers granted additional time, extending the decision deadline from Jan. 5 to Jan. 19.

According to the Corps’ Draft Environmental Impact Statement, the project would deepen and widen parts of the Wilmington Harbor to improve efficiency and accommodate larger vessels…
