AUSTIN, Texas — The Travis County Tax Office is reminding property owners that it may pay off — literally — to settle property tax bills before the calendar year ends. Officials say early payment could mean a potential deduction on federal tax returns.
Property taxes for homeowners across Texas are due Jan. 31, according to state law. But Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector Celia Israel says paying before Dec. 31 might reduce how much you owe the Internal Revenue Service.
