AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As freezing temperatures settle into the area, the Code Blue Warming Station plays a critical role in keeping people experiencing homelessness safe during extreme cold.
Virginia Williams Trice, executive director of Amarillo Housing First, said exposure to winter weather can have serious and sometimes deadly consequences for people living outdoors.

“Being exposed to those elements is pretty brutal to human bodies,” Williams Trice said. “They get frostbite. They can lose limbs. They can lose fingers, toes. They can also have hypothermia, which is their whole body getting too cold, and people die from that.”
