Happy New Year fireworks do’s and dont’s in Linn County

LINN COUNTY, Iowa — Linn County officials are reminding residents of the legal restrictions and safety requirements for using consumer fireworks as New Year’s Eve approaches.

Under Iowa law, consumer fireworks may be used in unincorporated areas of Linn County on Dec. 31 from 9 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1. Fireworks are only permitted on private property with the permission of the property owner, according to the county.

Corey Archer with Cedar Rapids Fire says safety is an important part of celebrating. “Children aren’t allowed really to be operating fireworks,” said Archer. “Usually most injuries for children occur to the age of 15. And that accounts for about a quarter of all injuries.”…
