A Sunday morning collision at North Route 23 and River Road in unincorporated Marengo turned a quiet stretch of highway into a mess of twisted metal and downed lines, leaving five adults hurt, fire officials said. Marengo Fire & Rescue District crews were dispatched at about 10:19 a.m. and arrived to find one vehicle stopped in the roadway and another in a ditch, tangled in utility-pole wiring.
