No charges a year after deadly Aliamanu illegal firework explosion

ALIAMANU, Oahu (KHON2) — New Year’s Eve will mark the one-year anniversary of the deadly illegal firework explosion in Aliamanu.

The explosion killed six people, including a three-year-old child, and left over 20 people injured, some of whom had to be transported off the island.

However, despite 12 arrests, not a single charge has been made.

“We had a family that was just obliterated,” said Mike Lamber, Director of Law Enforcement. “To me, it hits home, because one of the victims, three years old, same age as my daughter. I just celebrated my daughter’s fourth birthday, and I got to enjoy her blowing out a candle. That family had that taken from them because they made the poor decision to celebrate with fireworks.”…
