‘Enough is enough’: Daniel Island neighbors push to curb youth E-Bike use

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Electric bikes have become part of everyday life on Daniel Island, but, for a growing number of residents, they have also become a source of unease.

Neighbors are now urging the City of Charleston to restrict e-bike use for riders under 16, saying the rapid increase of powerful electric bicycles in residential areas has created unsafe conditions for pedestrians, drivers and children.

Walk around Smythe Park or along the island’s pathways and it is hard to miss children riding e-bikes, but this trend extends far beyond Daniel Island…
