Health officials warn of rising flu cases and other illnesses in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) — State health officials have issued a health alert as the South Carolina Department of Public Health reports a significant increase in flu cases and other illnesses not commonly seen.

More than 350 flu-related hospitalizations have been recorded in the past week alone, with numbers continuing to rise. Dr. Linda Bell, state epidemiologist, expressed concern over the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases, including flu, measles, and pertussis, as well as seasonal viruses like COVID-19 and RSV.
