Owner of “ugly” hangar faces eviction by county

In response to FAA, county calls airport environment a “flawed culture”

In November, county commissioners voted to terminate the lease on hangar H-11 used by an airplane mechanic and airplane inspector at the Pickens airport.

In a letter to Garrett Cobb, owner of Joe Aircraft, Commission Chair Kris Stancil wrote that since the county took direct control of the airport from the airport authority earlier this year, they had been reviewing its operations. The letter, dated November 18, 2025, stated, “Based upon the board’s review of the airport’s records and advice of its legal counsel, it has concluded that you do not have an effective written lease governing your tenancy of the property. And it has further concluded that continuing your tenancy is not in the county’s best interests.”…
