Speed limits reduced on Erie County interstates Wednesday

(WJET/WFXP)– Continued winter weather has prompted PennDOT to lower speed limits on Erie County’s interstates to 45 mph and urge residents avoid any unnecessary travel.

In addition to speed limits being reduced, PennDOT is restricting commercial vehicles to the right lane only. Those restrictions apply to the following interstates:

  • Interstate 79 from Exit 141 (Route 285, Geneva/Cochranton) in Crawford County to the end point in Erie County.
  • Interstate 86 from the New York line to the Interstate 90 interchange in Erie County.
  • Interstate 90 from the Ohio state line to the New York state line in Erie County

Additionally, Interstate 80 eastbound has had its speed limit reduced to 55 mph from Exit 42 (Route 38, Emlenton) in Venango County to Exit 120 (Route 879, Clearfield/Shawville) in Clearfield County.

Crews are still out treating roadways and PennDOT said they’ll continue to do so until the weather improves and the roads are clear…
