Alabama nurses frustrated as website outage threatens license renewal deadline

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — The Alabama Board of Nursing (ABN) website appeared to be experiencing an outage just as people were scrambling to meet the 4 p.m. December 31st renewal deadline. People clicking on the renewal tab Wednesday morning were taken to a mostly blank white page with one sentence at the top that said, “The service is unavailable.”

Dozens of people voiced their frustrations on an ABN Facebook renewal reminder posted last week. One person wrote, “How can we renewal if the website won’t load! This is outrageous, I have been trying for two days!!” Another person commented, “I cannot log in and haven’t been able to in days!! Someone please help!”

The ABN Facebook post says Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Multistate Registered Nurses (MSL RNs), Medication Assistants, Certified (MACs), Nursing Support Technicians (NSTs), State Nursing Assistants (SNAs) have to renew their license by the end of the year. “Unfortunately, our records indicate that an alarming number of these individuals have not renewed their licenses at this time. Any license that is not renewed prior to 4:30 pm on December 31 will lapse and the licensee will no longer be legally authorized to practice in our state.”…
