Springfield police urge safe practices this New Year’s Eve

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – This New Year’s Eve, thousands of people will be coming into downtown Springfield to ring in the new year, but there are some important safety tips Springfield police want you to keep in mind before you head out.

Lieutenant Brandon Penrose says the Springfield Police Department doesn’t usually see a spike in crime around the holiday, but they’re always prepared.

“We always have efforts and going out trying to enforce that,” he said, “stopping vehicles and everything like that, and that’s every day of the year that we’re doing that. As far as downtown or any other activities down there, we always have plans in place to keep everybody safe because we want people to go out and enjoy themselves, but we just want them to do it responsibly.”…
