Texas monks’ “Walk for Peace” enters Gwinnett County

A group of Buddhist monks based in Texas is walking to Washington, D.C. and entered Gwinnett County on their route on Wednesday.

The “Walk for Peace” is a 120-day, 2,300-mile trek being made by the monks from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington in an effort to “raise awareness of peace, loving kindness and compassion across America and the world,” according to the group’s social media page.

Gwinnett County Police said Wednesday morning, Dec. 31, that the monks entered Gwinnett County that morning, traveling northbound on Five Forks Trickum Road toward Rockbridge Road in the Stone Mountain area. The monks are being escorted by Gwinnett officers while in the county.

“We kindly ask everyone to remain respectful of the monks and their mission throughout the day,” Gwinnett Police said in a statement. “Motorists should expect traffic delays in the area and are encouraged to plan alternate routes when possible.”…
