Caltrans reopens I-5 Tejon Pass rest areas; sediment removal underway in two ponds

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Caltrans, in cooperation with Granite Construction, announced the reopening of the Interstate 5 Tejon Pass rest areas in Kern County on Wednesday, New Year’s Eve.

Officials from Caltrans said following a damage assessment on Monday, sediment accumulation was found to be limited to two of the four wastewater overflow ponds.

A contractor is currently on site, removing sediment from the affected ponds. The unaffected ponds will provide capacity to the rest areas during the cleanup operations…
