Georgia officials issue fireworks safety alert ahead of New Year’s Eve

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Georgia’s Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner is urging residents to take safety precautions when using fireworks for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Commissioner John King said people should be aware of wind conditions when setting off fireworks, as wind can carry them into unintended areas.

“Any time you’re using fireworks, just be aware of the wind, and how it can carry a firework into an unintended area, especially with all the dry leaves and pine trees we have, it just makes a ready combustion that can cause a fire,” King said…
