Wreaths Across America paid a call on Robertson County this year on Dec. 13. Wreaths were laid at 124 veterans’ graves at Adams’ Bellwood Cemetery, and 54 graves were decorated at Adams City Cemetery at Red River Baptist Church.
Regent Becky Gunn of the Charlotte Reeves Robertson Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution jointly presided over the honor ceremony with members of the Thomas Kilgore Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution. State Representative Sabi (Doc) Kumar gave remarks.
Wreaths Across America was first observed in 2007 by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester. Ceremonies take place simultaneously Nationwide on a Saturday in December each year with wreaths being placed at over 5,500 cemeteries, including Arlington National Cemetery. Fresh evergreen wreaths, tied with red ribbon, are set at each veteran’s grave in order to Remember, Honor and Teach.
