COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The Columbus Police Department (CPD) is reflecting on the past 12 months as 2025 comes to a close.
One of the biggest highlights for CPD this year, according to Assistant Chief Lance Deaton, was a shift in culture. Though he said this has been slowly happening under Chief Stoney Mathis’ leadership, 2025 is when clear, tangible changes for the better started to become apparent.
“I think we’re moving back to the area of having officers who are highly trained, highly motivated and, you know, hiring the right people,” Deaton said. He added, “That’s helping us get back to a culture of one of the top police agencies in the state of Georgia.”…
