Amid dry conditions, fire departments on high alert for New Year’s Eve

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Fire departments are on high alert as New Year’s Eve fireworks pose increased risks amid dry conditions and a recent surge in brush fires.

The Midland Valley Fire Department said on-duty firefighters and volunteers are coordinating where volunteers may be needed most, based on the number of calls they have already received.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is implementing enhanced security measures for New Year’s Eve celebrations in downtown Augusta.
