LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — As millions wait for the clock to strike midnight to ring in the new year, law enforcement is working to keep people safe.
This is the time of year when drunken driving deaths peak. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, December drunken driving deaths are at their highest nationwide in 15 years.

“We could be talking about a tragedy,” said Sergeant Bige Towery with the Lexington Police Department. “Whether you hit a pedestrian, whether you hit another vehicle, whether somebody loses their life, whether their life is impacted from now on, we’ve got to think ahead and think about those consequences.”
