Unlicensed driver from Mexico stopped near Wildwood Intermediate

An unlicensed driver from Mexico was arrested after being stopped near Wildwood Intermediate School without a driver’s license.

An officer saw 42-year-old Erik Rios Lopez driving a black Volkswagen passenger car westbound on Cleveland Avenue around 8:45 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. Due to an improper sunscreen at the top of his windshield, he was stopped at the intersection with Powell Street near Wildwood Intermediate School.

The officer then spoke to Rios Lopez at his door to ask for his license, proof of insurance and registration. But he advised that he never got a license in the United States. In fact, he had been arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol about two years ago for the same offense, the report said.

A check of his driving history revealed he had been adjudicated withheld by a judge on March 6, 2024, for operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license, meaning he was found guilty but not formally convicted for the crime…
