California Highway Patrol begins New Year’s enforcement campaign

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol Wednesday ramped up law enforcement operations in San Diego County and statewide for New Year’s Eve, while the San Diego Police Department warned revelers against DUI and using illegal fireworks.

The SDPD also urged motorists to allow enough space between vehicles to create more reaction time during rainy conditions.

The CHP will initiate its New Year’s Holiday Enforcement Period at 6 p.m. Wednesday, when all available officers will deploy to catch impaired motorists, speeders and other traffic violators. The campaign, which replicates a 30-hour HEP during Christmas, will continue until late Thursday night…
