Nelson puts together strong audition for bigger role in 2026

LAS VEGAS — For the first couple offensive possessions of the Las Vegas Bowl, young Nebraska running backs Mekhi Nelson and Isaiah Mozee picked up right where Emmett Johnson left off.

On the opening offensive possession for the Huskers, Nelson cut back and raced 38 yards for the opening score of the game. Nelson and Kwinten Ives took turns carrying the ball on the second possession of the game, as the Big Red ran up the odometer for 94 yards rushing in the first quarter.

By the end of the first possession, Nelson had nearly eclipsed his rushing total for the entire season until Wednesday’s bowl game…
