6 hospitalized, including 4 kids, after fire erupts at West Side apartment building

CHICAGO — At least six people, including four children, were hospitalized early Thursday morning after a fire erupted at an apartment building on the West Side.

According to Chicago police, the blaze erupted at a building in the 5600 block of West Adams Street in Austin, just after 5:30 a.m.

While it is currently unclear what sparked the blaze, officers said it was started accidentally inside a unit in the building.

Fire crews were called to the scene, and when they arrived, they found the building’s third floor engulfed in flames. Crews then began rescuing people from the building.
