High-Speed Chase Leads to Crash and Arrests of Suspected Car Thieves in Gresham

In the pre-dawn silence of a Gresham street, a high-speed drama unfolded leading to a crash, a vigorous search, and subsequent arrests. The Gresham Police Department detailed an incident on December 30, around 1:45 a.m., where an officer attempted to stop a red Kia Soul near SE 182nd Ave and SE Division St, only for the vehicle to crash into landscaping near a gas station after which three occupants fled on foot.

The chaotic scene saw officers setting up a perimeter, deploying a K-9, while also intercepting a suspicious vehicle attempting to navigate the restricted area, as it was circling inside the perimeter the officers noticed the vehicle and in it, they found two of the three fleeings Kia occupants: a 15-year-old and a 21-year-old who both confessed to having been in the stolen car. The driver, identified as a 16-year-old, was later found at a nearby residence; the youth not only admitted to the theft of the Kia but also to crashing it and running from the crash site.

“Great work by everyone involved,” proclaimed the Gresham Police in a social media update, extolling the coordination in their team’s response to the situation.
