Some people who bought vehicles from five Lithia dealerships here in Alaska may be receiving refunds. Alaska’s Attorney General reports the Lithia dealerships have reached a settlement over illegal dealer fees and misleading ads.
The investigation, conducted by the Consumer Protection Unit, found that some Lithia dealerships charged customers extra dealer fees—such as document fees—that were not included in the advertised price of vehicles. Under Alaska law, all dealer fees must be included in the advertised price and advertising a lower price and then charging more at the dealership is illegal.
Attorney General Cox emphasized that charging undisclosed dealer fees is both unlawful and deceptive. He added, however, that Lithia cooperated with the investigation, acknowledged its mistakes, and worked with the state to resolve the issue fairly…
