Tuskegee University police chief arrested on DUI charge, school officials say

ATLANTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Tuskegee University’s newly hired police chief was arrested New Year’s Day in Sandy Springs on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the school.

Officials with the Alabama HBCU said in a statement that University Police Chief Kareem Easley was arrested by the Sandy Springs Police Department early Thursday morning on a DUI charge.

Easley was hired as police chief in October 2025, “bringing more than 20 years of local, county and state experience to the job,” according to the school’s website.

“In an abundance of caution,” Easley has been placed on administrative leave as the university conducts an internal investigation into the incident. Assistant Chief Darrius Jones will take over as acting chief of police…
