Examining poverty’s toll on florida women

The Greater Naples Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold a meeting open to the public on Saturday, January 10, 2026 featuring Dr. Tom Felke, Ph. D., MSW, on “Poverty in Florida and How It Affects Florida Women.” Executive Director of the Shady Rest Institute on Positive Aging and Associate Dean for Academics and Professor in Social Work at FGCU, Dr. Felke focuses his teaching and research on macro social work issues, such as the needs of seniors, affordable housing, and food insecurity, using geographic information systems (GIS) mapping.

He is active as a member of several boards and committees in Southwest Florida as well as for national social work organizations. He received the Southwest Florida Social Work Educator of the Year Award in 2016 and the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Social Workers – Florida in 2024.

The meeting will be at the Grace Lutheran Church, Fellowship Hall, 860 Banyan Blvd, Naples, FL 34102. Refreshments will be available at 9:30 AM, with the program starting at 10:00 AM. There’s no fee for attendance, all are welcome, and pre-registration is not required…
