San Diego residents trapped inside cars as flash flooding emergency grips county

A flash flood warning has been issued for southwestern San Diego County as heavy rain from thunderstorms moves throughout the region on New Year’s Day.

The National Weather Service issued the warning at 6:33 a.m. and will remain in effect until 9:30 a.m. According to forecasters, approximately 1.5 inches of rain have already fallen, with rainfall rates expected to reach 0.25 to 0.75 inches per hour.
